We all know what it feels like when you are about to take a shower to find that you have a clogged bathtub; it becomes really frustrating. Out of all the drains in our home, our bathtubs drains are the ones that are the most abused. With all the hair, soap, shampoos, and shower gels, there’s a lot of stuff that goes into this drain every day. If you find yourself stuck in that situation, here are some tricks that will help you fix that clogged drain yourself.

Clean the Stopper

The first thing you should do when you’re faced with a clogged bathtub full of hair is to simply remove the strainer or stopper and clean it. Use a screwdriver to unscrew it, or simply lift it in order to remove the hair built-up underneath. Afterward, run the water and see if you were able to unclog it.

Use a Drain Claw

If you aren’t sure what a drain claw is; it is actually a flexible wire with a hundred interlocking hooks. This wire helps you catch substances inside the pipe or drain easily. Using the hook, you will be able to grab any clumps of hair or other materials that are clogging the drain. Repeat this method several times until you get an unclogged drain.

Try a Drain Cleaner

Drain cleaners are chemical products that are specifically made to unclog bathtubs. Make sure you choose a cleaner that is specifically made to unclog any shower or bathtub drain by reading online reviews that reveal their pros and cons. First, you should put on your gloves and read the instructions on the product then pour it into the drain. Wait for some time, then try to run the water to see if it has worked. However, drain cleaners shouldn’t be overused as they contain chemicals that could be very harmful to your drainage system.

Fetch Some Baking Soda and Vinegar

If those techniques haven’t worked for you, you can actually use some of your kitchen supplies to help you out with your clogged shower or bathtub. First, try to pour some boiling water into the drain, and then see if it works. Next, pour a half cup of baking soda along with a cup of white vinegar into the drain. Afterward, you should wait for about 15-20 minutes to see if the trick worked.

Use a Plunger

Plungers can become helpful tools during these situations. So go fetch your old bathroom plunger, fill the bathtub with some hot water, then place the plunger over the hole and start pushing and pulling it several times. If you find that the plunger is pulling out the clogged hair, then your method is succeeding and will have to repeat it several times to completely unclog your bathtub or shower.

Rather than having to call in the plumber and pay a $100-dollar bill, those easy hacks could help you when you are stuck in this situation. However, if you find yourself unable to unclog your shower or bathtub after trying those techniques, then it is probably a severe clog. It means you will have to call in the professionals.
