Substitute: Use plastic file folders (at any stationery store)

You can buy acetate or vinyl sheet at craft and hobby shops. Invest in a decent craft knife such as those manufactured by Olfa, and use a self-healing cutting mat when cutting out your stencil designs. A thicker sheet will reduce bleed under the stencil, as will using Bostik spray adhesive to temporarily mount the stencil to the wall as you roll on the paint.

There are many ways to make a template to use for stencilling onto a wall if you find it difficult to find acetate or plastic sheet to use for making a stencil. Recycle a cardboard box into a template for larger stencil designs.
