Scientific research over the passage of time has proven to us how valuable getting a good night’s sleep is for our health and overall well being. But in order to really get a restful sleep, the mattress that you sleep on really does make all the difference. If your body doesn’t feel comfortable, then getting decent rest is definitely out of the question.

It’s easy enough when you go out to buy a mattress, you rely on the store clerk to give you the best there is and you go by his or her word. But surely, it doesn’t hurt to have the knowledge yourself, does it? There are a lot of credible, tried and tested options in the market, and the more you understand what components make the perfect mattress for you, the better. It’s always valuable to get research done and look over different reviews too, so that you’re on top of the game.

It’s important that you know what different kinds there are and how they differ so that you can decide on which one would suit you and your loved ones better.

Coil

This is the oldest mattress we know of! As the name clarifies, it is made of a bunch of springs, or coils, that compress and weigh down when you lay down. The great things about these beds is that they are extremely affordable and are super bouncy, and remember, the higher the coil count, the better the quality. However, the only downside is that these kinds of mattresses don’t tend to live for very long.

Pillow Top

Pillow tops are what you can say are a nice upgrade to add to your coil mattress if you wish. They add a nice cushioning of the mattress that you’re using and can also come with added features. This may prove to be a bit more pricey than normal, but not without worth and reason! Pillow top mattresses add more comfort, can keep you cool, and come in a variety of materials such as latex, foam or even wool.

Organic

If you’d like to go that extra mile and are mindful of how much of an effect every purchase you make has on the environment, then an organic mattress is certainly the way to go. All the material used to create them are always non toxic and 100% eco-friendly. In the grand scheme of things, this is a wonderful option as you will be contributing to making sure that the planet has that much less harm being done to it because a handful of people decided to invest in an eco-friendly product.

Polyfoam

These kinds of mattresses have a synthetic foam known as polyfoam as their main feature, and can be quite affordable too. They might not have the best rep because many of these synthetic foams have not been too environmentally friendly in the past. Currently, however, this is not the case. Many poly foam mattresses that are certified are produced in ways that are eco-friendly whilst providing a ton of comfort. They are also known to be more durable if their density is high, this way, they tend to last much longer.

Gel

If you’re not too fond of feeling super hot in bed, or live in a hot climate, then you need to make sure that you get a mattress that has gel infused into its foam. Many mattresses tend to become quite hot because of how dense they. They’re dense because this is what gives maximum support and comfort to your body. And now, the gel mattress is here to lend that extra perk of making sure you’re not hot and bothered under the sheets either!

Hybrid

Just the name in itself catches your attention instantly. What is the hybrid mattress all about? It basically brings the old along with the new and gives you a mattress that has the springs and coils along with the dense foam and the gel as well, providing you with bounce, depth of comfort, as well as being able to stay cool. There are also advanced types of hybrid mattresses like the iSense adjustable mattresses that provide you with more comfort control.

Memory Foam

If you’re going to buy a mattress, you’re going to want to make sure that memory foam is part of the deal. These kinds of mattresses are extremely helpful for people who have back problems. And even if you don’t have back problems, the majority of people will prefer to invest in a memory foam mattress because it is still hard enough to support your back and also give you the comfort of being just soft enough to take your shape on the mattress. You’ll find that if you’re the kind of person who would rather sleep on their side, then this will do wonders because your circulation won’t be affected the way it would be on a harder mattress.

Latex

The latex mattress isn’t that far off from the specs of memory foam mattresses, as they also give a nice, dense shape around your form when you lay down on it. The only difference here is that with latex, you’ll have the option of having coils, and therefore, more spring to the mattress. Latex is also known to be much cooler than a memory foam mattress.

Airbeds

The airbeds that we have in the market now have come a long way in terms of temporary and easy sleeping arrangements for any household that it easily moved. You can even use these outdoor or when you go camping. There are models that are designed in such a way that they are extremely good for your back and they’re not difficult to set up at all. This is a plus in that they are affordable, don’t look bad at all, and you can move them anywhere you like at any time. They’re ideal for small spaces and just to even keep as an extra backup in case you have people coming to stay!

The More You Know

It’s important to have the details of what options are available, so that the next time you go out there and decide to invest in a new mattress, you make the right choice for your sleeping position as well as your health. You may live in a hotter climate, and as a result will have to be sure that you get a mattress that is cooler than most. Or you may have back problems, so you’ll want to get one that’s not too springy and is dense enough to keep your spine straight and won’t aggravate the condition. Whatever your needs may be, now you know enough to be able to make the right decision for you and your loved ones too.
