Following the 2020 launch of the company’s signature modular shelving system – the first collection in its wall-mounted furniture series - the creative team at TimHarris Design has now introduced a bike rack that doubles as an art piece for biking enthusiasts.

Ideal for devotees of minimalism or those who simply want to maximise their space, the racks are available for both mountain and road bikes, differing only in their size of extension from the wall.

“The rack is designed for beautiful bikes, receding into the background and allowing the bike’s beauty to shine. It also looks beautiful without the bike too,” says Founder, Tim Harris. Each rack is constructed from laser-cut, 3mm black or white Ferrograin powder coated mild steel, with an 18mm clear coated birch ply link and tan leather saddles onto which the bike is simply lifted. The wooden link provides the perfect space for helmets and accessories. Plus, there is an option to add hooks for hanging cycling shoes underneath the shelf.

The idea for the bike racks came from Harris’ cousin who is an avid cyclist but lives in a small Johannesburg apartment with minimal space. “His bike is his pride and joy – he has spent ages refurbishing it. After commissioning the bike rack, he now says that his wall is complete.”

TimHarris Design features the talents of Tim and Lauren, the dynamic duo behind the original modular shelving system. The company has its eye on design, working from a creative studio that offers bespoke furniture and solutions for clients. Tim's experience in his father's woodworking workshop and his training at a renowned design school initially ended up with Tim working in the ad industry and it was only later on that he decided to go out on his own. Lauren has a background in travel and touring and lends her logistical experience to the business.

TimHarris Design focuses on combining precision design with simplicity and items are shipped from their Cape Town workshop as flat packed and ready for easy assembly.
