Studying to become a nurse or taking an advanced nursing qualification such as an MSN online requires a lot of hard work and dedication. This is why if you are currently studying nursing, it’s crucial to have a dedicated study space where you can be at your most productive. This is especially important for students who are taking on an online program and most of their study time will take place at home. We’ve put together some top tips to help nursing students create an environment that will help them reach their top potential.

Tip #1. Eliminate Distractions

Any environment can quickly become destructive to your efforts if there are too many distractions. If you find your living space too distracting, it’s good to make a note of the main things that distract you and ensure that they are not present in your new designated study space. For example, you might find background music too distracting – if so, a quiet study space will be best for you. If you tend to get distracted by mess or anything needing to be cleaned, arrange your study space in a way that’s easy to keep it tidy and in order.

Tip #2. Use Ergonomic Furniture

When you’re trying to get some work done for your RN to MSN, the last thing that you want to be is in pain or uncomfortable. Along with that, you don’t want your time studying to affect you later on with back pain or stiff joints. Investing in ergonomic desk furniture for your study space is an excellent decision. It will help to keep you comfortable and relaxed whilst working and ensure that you avoid any posture problems that could affect your ability to work as a nurse later on.

Tip #3. Pick a Smart Color Scheme

For some students, the colors around them can have a huge impact on their ability to study and focus. When designing and decorating your study space, it’s a good idea to take some time to think about the type of colors that will help you focus best. For example, orange, greens, blues, and neutral hues tend to have a good effect on some students whilst others may work better alongside brighter colors such as yellow or red.

Tip #4. Stock Up on What You Need:

If you tend to find yourself distracted when coming out of your study space and spending far longer on breaks than you planned, then stocking up on what you need inside your study could be a good idea. For example, keep a kettle in there so that you can make yourself coffee or tea, and have some high-protein snacks such as nuts and seeds, which will help to keep you going and improve your energy and focus whilst you study. However, don’t forget to schedule in some outside breaks as a breath of fresh air and stretching your legs will do you good.
