We all possess items that we deem to be extremely valuable, and we can’t help but wonder, what would be the best way to store these valuables? Many people like to get a locker at the bank, while others would prefer to keep their items safe at home and closer to them.

If you’re going to keep your valuables at home, then you should take an extra precaution for safety as well. Self defense items are great options to keep close by you at all times, in case you have to deal with a break in or threat of any kind. It’s also smart to think of unconventional spots and ideas to hide your belongings in.

Read on to find out the best and smartest ways to store your valuables and ensure their security.

Hollowed Out Books

You need to make it a point to have a library in your home, regardless of whether you plan on reading the books or not! This is because it is probably one of the best spots to hide your belongings, and should someone break into your home, they’re not likely to make a beeline for the books. Depending on how much you would like to put away, you can either hollow out one or a few books and insert either a safe or a container and store your jewelry or money, for instance.

Taped Behind Or Under A Drawer

When it comes to large sums of money or important documents, you want to make sure that they’re kept somewhere you’re sure no one will ever have an idea of. Taping these or even having an envelope put underneath or behind a cupboard or a drawer makes an ideal hiding place.

In Sports Equipment

This is an option you can get really creative with! You can use all kinds and sizes of balls, cut them open and store your belongings in there, and then put them away somewhere safe where you can guarantee that no one will kick it around! You can tape important papers at the bottom of your snooker or ping pong table as well.

Hidden Storage Areas

If you’d really like to have a storage area that can take a couple of things in one go, then you should consider having one built in somewhere where it is not visible. Think about having a hidden spot underneath the stairs, something built into the ground, or even the walls. They need to be covered or camouflaged in a way where no one would suspect or even think of the possibility of there being a storage area in that spot.

In Your Plants

Another great spot to hide your valuables is in your plants. You can create a space between the bottom of the pot and the plant itself so that you can keep your belongings in there. This is a great place to keep extra keys as well.

If you get really large indoor plants, then you can even place a small safe in it without anyone ever noticing.

Hidden Bottom Drawer

This trick is pretty easy to do- you just need a panel that is the same size as the dimensions of your drawer, and you can create a hidden space underneath the original space. This is great to have in your room or anywhere else in the house to keep your precious belongings without having to worry about anyone finding out.

False Air Vent

You can create an opening, preferably in a more discreet location, and then cover it with the grill that is used to cover air vents to give the illusion of an air vent. You can put a small safe in there or a box that you can lock and keep your belongings safely here.

If you’re the kind of person that would like to have their valuables close by, somewhere in your home, and want to ensure their safety, then be sure to try the options suggested here. You should also take a good look around your house and see what other possibilities there might be. You might find a spot in an unconventional place in the house, such as the kitchen or the bathroom, or you may find a certain decor piece that would be perfect for hiding something precious. Always make sure that it’s something that doesn’t arouse any kind of suspicion and make sure it’s not something that the kids could take or lose at any given time either!
