With the kids off to university, this couple decided that their existing kitchen didn't need to be able to withstand the knocks and bumps that come with having 3 growing boys around. The kitchen has a sit-in dining area where the family gathered together for breakfasts and casual meals, but the farmhouse-style table and benches were no longer necessary and they wanted a more sophisticated look for the kitchen.

Not wanting the cost and hassle of going through a kitchen renovation, Peta-Anne, who is an interior decorator by trade, decided  to take on the project herself.

Taking her colour cues from those used in the living and dining rooms of their home, Peta-Anne selected a deep cool grey for the kitchen cabinetry and walls. While this might be considered a bit risky for a kitchen, the area receives plenty of natural light via a large expanse of glass doors and windows.

The deep grey colour selected for the kitchen cabinets and walls provides a contrast against the smooth white countertop, crisp white accessories and decorative cornice installed around the room. The colours give the kitchen a fresh new look with just the right amount of sophisticated flair.

The only other major additions to this kitchen transformation were to replace the stainless steel splashback with a mosaic tile arrangement in shades of grey and black that ties in beautifully with the new look. New stainless steel appliances were purchased and a modern table and chairs finish off the transformation. The entire kitchen makeover was easy to do and completed in a week without too much fuss.
