Small changes for big improvement

I stumbled across this makeover during one of my late night research sessions and was immediately struck by how many homeowners sit with the same problem: A tiny kitchen that offers no room to move around, no space for dining, and a cramped apartment.
The kitchen remodel was a result of a dire need for a truly functional kitchen. The residence is in an area where apartments, and especially kitchens, tend to be small. So, to maximize on space an create a larger kitchen, the wall that separated the kitchen from the living room was removed to create an open plan look and feel.

GOOD TO KNOW
If you are planning to remove any walls within a property, check first that they aren't load-bearing walls. A load-bearing wall supports an additional structure above, which is usually roof beams or concrete slab. All exterior walls are load-bearing as they support the roof structure or additional levels. If in any doubt consult a structural engineer for advice. When removing load-bearing walls an additional support structure such as a beam or lintel will need to be added to compensate for the removal of the wall.
Walls that house electrical and plumbing will require the services of a qualified professional to relocate such services to a new point once the wall is removed.
If there is sufficient space, allow for a 900mm wide countertop to serve as both a kitchen work space and a dining space.
