Casual outdoor entertaining

Turn that boring braai into a wonderful casual entertainment area where you can sit and relax and enjoy meals with family and friends.

What was once just a bland braai was transformed into an entertainment area for the whole family. With the addition of a simple pole supported bamboo (substitute with thatch, reed or branch) roof and transparent fibreglass corrugated sheets, the braai area offers a cool, shady spot to relax and entertain. Before, the built braai was exposed to full sunlight and wasn't used that much - now it has become a gathering place.

The concrete slab floor is contained within a small wall that can also double up as extra seating for when friends arrive. Pop on a couple of cushions and voila - seating for everyone!

Casual details are what make this entertaining area so comfortable and cosy. Plain white ceramics are softened and coloured using fresh flowers and cotton accessories. Even the flea market furniture has been given a coat of Rust-Oleum 2X satin blossom white to keep it looking fresh and to coordinate with the space.

Attention to the smallest detail add even more personality, and it is so easy to swap out soft furnishings when you want a new look. Shop for fabrics that are durable, colourful and offer pattern and texture.

All the colours used to decorate the outdoor entertaining area are selected to complement the surrounding garden. Shades of pink and faded red are livened up with the addition of yellow, green and purple hues. Organic accessories further enhance the casual atmosphere, with rattan pendant shades and weathered wood.

In this setting, secondhand and flea market finds add comfortable seating and essential accessories. Decorating in this style means you don't have to continuously stress about finding the perfect pieces - casual is all about comfort without to much hassle. Sit back and unwind and take in the scents of the garden.
