What is a caulking gun and how do I use it...?

When using cartridge tubes of product, be it for applying adhesive or filling and sealing gaps, the best way to apply these products is by using a caulking gun. You can buy a caulking gun at your local Builders Warehouse and they range in price from around R30 upwards.

One good reason for using a caulking gun is that it releases a long, smooth and even flow of adhesive or sealer where you are working. This is especially important if you are filling visible gaps or sealing around bathtubs, sinks or showers, where the sealer is in plain sight.

Smaller tubes of adhesive or sealer have to be squeezed repeatedly, leaving a messy finish, but by using a caulking gun you have a smooth finish and easy clean up.

It's also a good idea when sealing around fittings in the bathroom to place a layer of masking tape above and below where you will apply the sealer. Once applied, remove the masking tape before the sealer dries.

Watch this video below to find out how easy it is to remove old silicone sealer using WD-40 spray. This is a new method for me and I will definitely be giving it a try. In the video they show using a FUGI TOOL for a neat finish - substitute this by cutting the corner of an expired credit card... works like a dream.
