How to make your own shelves

Inspired by the Ballard Design cafe shelves, Country Girl Home shows how easy it is to make your own cafe shelves using pine moulding.

These shelves are very simple to make and can be used for storage anywhere in the home. You can paint then any colour you want, to match your decor.

YOU WILL NEED:

Pine shelving 305 x 1000mm
2 pine brackets
Pine moulding
Mitre saw or mitre box & backsaw
Panel pins
Hammer
Wood glue
Drill/Driver and bits
Wall plugs and screws
Spirit level
Tape measure
Pencil

GOOD TO KNOW
Drill out and attach keyhole plates/brackets to the back of each shelf for easy mounting onto a wall. Use a spirit level to mark shelf placement on the wall and then drill for wall plug and then insert a screw with a small section of screw head protruding on which to position the keyhole plate/bracket.

Step 1
Glue the brackets to one side of the board, approximately 50mm in from each end and exactly in line with the back edge. Once dry, hammer in a few panels pins through the top of the shelf.

DIY Tip:
If you're handy with power tools and know how to use a Router make your own shelf brackets!

Step 2
The pine moulding is glued and pinned onto the front and sides of the shelf. You can cut the angled corners with a mitre saw or with a mitre box and backsaw.
