Chop off the old block

This week's do-it-yourself project is an easy project that won't cost a fortune, requires basic power tools, and the end result in a modern coffee table that is perfect for your home.

YOU WILL NEED:

16 of 305 x 400mm laminated pine shelving - sides
4 of 420 x 420 laminated pine shelving - top
1 of 10mm glass with sanded edges cut to your desired width and length
Wood glue
Silicone bumpers
Strap clamps or packaging tape
Woodoc gel stain
Woodoc 10 interior sealer
Paintbrush
Woodoc steel wool
Mineral turpentine
Lint-free cloths

HERE'S HOW:

1. Use wood glue and panel pins to assemble the blocks for the base. The diagram below shows how each side needs to be placed. Use strap clamps or packaging tape to hold them together until the glue dries.

2. Place a bead of wood glue around the top edge of the base blocks and pop on the top. Let the glue dry.

3. Sand all edges smooth with 120- and then 220-grit sandpaper. Wipe clean with a cloth lightly dampened with mineral turpentine; stain in your choice of wood finish and seal with Woodoc 10.

4. Place silicone bumpers on top of the blocks to hold your glass securely in place.

How easy was that !
