Repair broken gate bolt

Over the holidays some of the neighbourhood kids were playing on our garden gate and broke one of the fixing bolts. Half the bolt was still in the wall. Here's how to replace the bolt without having to move the entire gate.

YOU WILL NEED:

Alpen Multicut ATM 5 drill bit #10

Rawlplug Garden Gate Kit, or expansion bolt

Corded drill, not less than 550W

While away on holiday, some of the neighbourhood kids were playing on the garden gate and broke one of the fixing bolts. Half the bolt was still in the wall, and not wanting to move the gate, here's how to replace the bolt without having to move the entire gate.

On full power, drill through the broken bolt to the depth required for the new expansion bolt to be inserted.

Push the new expansion bolt into the hole, leaving just enough thread to secure the nut.

Tighten the nut as far as it will go.

The gate is now secure and didn't need to be moved.
