Kreg pocket hole systems have been on the market for some time now, and has become one of the most well-known brands. DIY enthusiasts and woodworkers alike love the ease and simplicity of joining wood when using the Kreg system, with the Kreg K4 and Kreg K5 master jig systems being the most popular. But what is the difference between the Kreg K4 and K5 pocket hole jig, and which is best for you?

What is most important to note when choosing between the Kreg K4 and K5 pocket hole systems is that they both do exactly the same thing. There are a few important differences between the K4 and K5, and we look at these below and explain why you will pay more for the K5 system.

Kreg K4 or K5 Master System

Both systems include the 3-hole drill guide, which features setting for material widths, and which is also featured on the main base. The main base has a large clamping recess that allows the tool to be clamped to your work bench and the K5 has a front-mounted clamping handle that is an update on the old system and allows easier setup of the tool.

Clamping System

The Kreg K5 has a ratchet arm clamp to hold material to be cut firmly against the drill guide. The Kreg K4 features a toggle clamp that requires manual adjustment when using different thicknesses. So in this regard, the K5 builds on the features of the K4 to offer better performance.

Length and Storage

Another difference between the K4 and K5 models is that the K5 accommodates large clip-on support wings to support longer project pieces, and these extensions provide storage for all your Kreg Jig accessories, while the K4 still retains the original design. Woodworkers and contractors felt that the original design required modification for longer pieces, but the K4 is still a best buy for most DIY enthusiasts.

Dust Collection

Both the K4 and K5 feature a dust collection adaptor, however, the K5 adaptor can be swivelled for ease of use when attaching a dust extraction system.
