In 2025, interior trends are all about embracing bold, expressive colours with more versatility than ever before. Leading this movement is Plascon’s Hybridity 2025 Colour Forecast.

But knowing what’s trending is just the first step. The key is choosing the right colour for the space, and then applying it for a result that lasts.

Before choosing a paint colour, do your research and avoid rushing the decision. ‘Buy a sample pot and test the colour on different walls to see how it looks in the space before making your final choice,’ advises Patty Mulauzi, Digital and Content Creation Manager for Plascon. ‘Testing in multiple areas will give you a true sense of how the colour will look once applied.’

When choosing a palette, consider how lighting and room size affect the colours. Take Plascon’s Natural family, for example - soft and serene, its tones truly come to life when used on larger surfaces. Acacia (86) evokes a beachy beige, Canyon Wall (O3-C1-3) brings earthy warmth, while Buttery (89) adds a subtle yellow hue that brightens even the dimmest spaces, infusing them with sunshine.

Dark colours are perfect for adding warmth and character. In smaller rooms, however, they can make the space feel cramped, especially with limited light.

In larger, well-lit rooms, deep tones create a bold, sophisticated atmosphere without feeling overwhelming. In 2025, expect to see earthy naturals paired with these deep, moody hues. Jewel tones like Showstopper (102) and Black Beard (B7-E1-1) shine when balanced with neutral shades.

The trend towards maximalism embraces both versatility and depth, with unexpected colour pairings and bold accents making their way into corporate and personal spaces. Neutrals take on fresh energy, with Evening Mist (1) offering a light, luminous whisper of warmth, just beyond pure white, while Cream of Mushroom (32) introduces a soft, sandy pastel. Chalky neons like Stylish Lime (Y7-A1-1) and Morning Crescent (O6-A2-1) provide a more refined take on vibrant hues, while Passion Red (101) gives crimson a fresh update and Plum Sensation (P4-B1-1) adds depth to purple.

Proper preparation and application are also vital. ‘With DIY painting, precision is key to achieving a professional finish,’ says Mulauzi. ‘Clean surfaces with sugar soap, use painter’s tape to protect trim, apply two coats for rich coverage, and start with the ceiling to avoid drips. Attention to detail makes all the difference.’
