Add colour without paint

Infuse colour into a bland room with soft furnishings and accessories - no paint required!

It's always said that the easiest and most affordable way to inject colour into a home is by using paint. But not everyone finds it easy to pick the perfect colour, or match colours to their existing room decor. Not to mention that there are those that absolutely hate painting!

There is an easier way to change the look of a room without cracking open a paint can... there are many ways that you can alter a room by incorporating splashes of colour in different ways. These ideas can also work great for people who rent or otherwise aren’t allowed to paint the walls.

The cushy touch
In a neutral or white room that needs more than a splash of colour, add brightly coloured cushions. Pick a theme for the room and choose a range of colours to blend in. E.G. Go Moroccan with bold, jewel shades, or African with gold, taupe, black and shades of brown. And generally nicely priced you can afford to add colour to every room in the home.

Dressed to impress
Don't wimp out when it comes to dressing your windows. Add some spice to the mix with matching curtains. Shop for eyelet, tab top or sheer curtains in jewel and bright colours.

Art on the walls
Whether it's wallpaper, framed prints or your own collection of art from a local gallery, graphics and artwork add something special to your space. Pick a piece that showcases intense colours and works well with the existing pieces in your room.

Take it to the floor
If you’ve always had the same area rugs, now is the time to switch it up a bit. Replace those worn rugs with newer ones in vivid patterns. Or try affixing a colourful rug on your wall to serve as a stunning tapestry - it's also a great way to block out the sound from noisy neighbours!

Lighten up with colour
Lampshades don't have to be white. You can easily add spots of colour with a funky shade. Or add coloured bulbs to some of your light fixtures. Incandescent lighting can add more warmth, and accent lighting can highlight an area of the room adding some additional cheer. If painting just isn't your thing, pop into your local home accessories store and colour your home with accessories!
