Easy wall texture with textured wallpaper

Add drama to any room with embossed or textured wallpaper. Then, to make the pattern stand out, try a simple decorative paint technique that highlights the texture.

HERE'S HOW:

For this elegant, old-fashioned look, we applied embossed wallpaper two-thirds of the way up the wall. A narrow shelf softens the transition from textured wall to plain, but the same effect could be realized with moulding.

To enhance the texture, we used a paint technique that darkens the field area of the pattern and lightens the raised portion. To achieve this result, first cover or tape off the base molding and floor; paint the wallpaper in a solid colour, then use a squeegee to remove some of the paint from the raised spots.

Design Tip:
Practice on scraps of the wallpaper first until you master the light touch needed to accomplish the result you want.

You will find textured wallpaper, as well as various wallpaper designs, at your local Builders Warehouse.

Dress up a plain entrance hall, or spice up a guest loo wall, with a sheet or two of wallpaper and paint. Textured wallpaper opens a whole new world of possibilities and I love the idea of limitless colour options.

Parklane Decor - www.parklanedecor.co.za - offers a selection of embossed wallpanels that can be fixed directly to internal walls for installation in bathrooms, to protect walls from damp around showers and tubs. Other applications, in any room of the house, are purely decorative.
