It happens to everybody. One day you are sitting in your living room, or in your bedroom, you look around and think “I am bored of this”. It’s after all perfectly natural to desire some change in the place where you spend the bulk of your time. After a few years maybe you have grown bored of that minimalist, all white look you liked so much back then. You then saw some image on a magazine, or the new living room décor of your neighbours at a party and wishes you also had some new style in your house. The problem is that unfortunately not all of us have the expertise and talent of an interior designer and transforming our ideas into reality is not always an easy task.

Nowadays we are bombarded by cool decor ideas we pick from Pinterest or Instagram, and we wish you could replicate those wonderful interiors in our new place, but the harsh reality is that it is not easy to transpose on our walls what we have found out online.

When it comes to painting our walls, the results can be sometimes discouraging, with uneven colours, the odd discoloration appearing and lines being less than even despite our best efforts.

There is however a simpler way to make your place look like one of those fabulous Pinterest images: leaving aside the dullness of paint and turn to high quality, designer wallpaper. Highlighting just a single wall with the right wall décor can completely transform a space, changing the tone and the atmosphere of the place.

A designer wallpaper can make a great the difference and truly transform your space, all you need to do is choose the right colours, patterns and materials. Compared to paint, the variety of options is just staggering and will give you full freedom in creating a unique space.

All it takes is to hit the web and choose the right wallpaper that fits your requirement from a trustworthy online shop. Once you receive it, the next task will be to put it up. Here are a few tips and tricks to make sure you end up with the perfect result:

Start with an empty room

It goes without saying that you need to free up the space of the wall you need to wallpaper as you need freedom of movement. Remove all furniture and make sure to have some space around you to move around as well, as you will need an area where to place the sheets of wallpaper, the tools and a table where to glue the paper. For this reason, it’s best to start the redecorating of a room with the wallpapering.

Check the shape of the wall

Before getting started with applying the wallpaper it’s important to make sure the wall behind it is in good conditions. The surface you want to wallpaper needs to be clean, uniform, firm and absorbent so that the paper can adhere without creating lumps or other imperfections. Should you notice mould on the wall make sure to treat it with the appropriate products and let it dry before starting the wallpapering process.

Make sure you have enough wallpaper

It seems like an obvious statement, but a common mistake is to miscalculate how much wallpaper you actually need. There is nothing worse than being halfway in wallpapering a wall only to discover you don’t have quite enough to finish the job. There are many tools online that can help you but all of them require you take the correct measurements. Take the measurements at several points in the wall, use the longest measurement as a basis and add 2 inches (5-6 cm) on each side. Remember, it’s never a bad idea to order too much than too little. The wallpaper you order today might not be available in a few years and it’s handy to have some left if you need to replace a sheet should something happen.

Happy wallpapering!
