Classic Blue - Pantone's Colour for 2020

With hues of blue on the cards for quite some time, it's no surprise that Classic Blue is Pantone's Colour of the Year for 2020.

Cool, calm and collected, Classic Blue is one of those colours that makes you feel reminiscent and comfortable and with the announcement of Classic Blue as the Pantone Colour of the Year for 2020, many interior designers breathe a sigh for a return to more traditional colours.

Those who tend to follow colour psychology would agree that this classic colour is all about being confident, and when the world seems to be tumbling out of control it's nice to know that it also signifies stability and protection, which we all need at this moment.

While grey still has a place in our home, it's nice to know that Classic Blue and grey provide a harmonious colour combination.

But classic blue isn't a classic colour. When you think of classic you are given over to thoughts of royal blue, navy blue and French blue. In the heat of summer, this blue reminds me more of white, sun-kissed homes draped with magenta bougainvillea against a classic blue ocean in the background. It's a cooling colour that we all need right now.

Let colour flow from one room to another with the use of fabrics and textiles in similar hues.

Living in a climate where hot days are the norm in the summer months, Classic Blue can be included with blue hues as a way to cool down a sunny room. As my favourite colour, blue has the ability to instantly cool and calm the senses when used in any room in a home, whether you use it as an accent colour or apply it throughout.

No matter what style of decor you prefer, Classic Blue can be casual or contemporary. It can be combined with other more subtle shades of blue to create a more in-depth feel that, despite being decorated in only blue, still manages to look classic and elegant.
