Chalk paint is the best invention since sliced bread. Chalk paint is so easy to apply and allows you to transform an old piece of furniture without hassle - without heavy sanding - without messy stripping!

YOU WILL NEED:

Fired Earth Chalk paint (two colours - base coat / top coat)

Paintbrushes

Sugar soap

Wax candle

Paint scraper

80-grit sandpaper

Sealer or clear varnish

HERE'S HOW:

1. Use a wet cloth to rub down the furniture with sugar soap. Wipe dry.

2. Apply chalk paint in your base colour. This is the colour that is going to show through the top coat once distressed. Leave it to dry and apply another coat if necessary.

3. Rub the candle over the edges and on areas where you want the paint to be removed to allow the base coat to show through. Give special attention to edges and corners where paint usually shows signs of wear and tear first.

4. Apply the second colour for your top coat and leave to dry completely. Apply a second coat of paint.

5. Once the paint is completely dry, use the paint scraper to gently scrape the paint off the edges and corners. Any remaining paint can be removed by sanding off more paint here and there with 80-grit sandpaper.

6. To protect the finished project, seal the paint with wax, sealer or varnish.
