Inhouse Design Studio was approached to design an art gallery in a previously unused area in a private residence. Working closely with our client, we needed to create a gallery equal to European standards for the vast collection of art on the walls. We incorporated a modern theme throughout the gallery, contrasting light and depth to emphasise the vibrant artwork.

Adding to the crisp white walls, we added white epoxy flooring that, actuated through dim lighting, surrounds the entirety of the space. The dim light in the room subtly emphasizes a strip of solid black paint. The lines across the ceiling- echoed off the slight shine of the flooring- evoke a striking tone contrast across the room. Along with small black curvatures at the bottom of every wall, the place is the perfect setting to explore intricate detail of every art piece.

We worked closely with the client to perfect the look and feel we wanted for the area. We focused on the tall walls in the gallery and added mirrors to frame the larger artworks. The glossy epoxy flooring continued from the gallery area onto the wide curved staircase. We curved the stairs at the bottom, along with the balustrade and the LED lights to make it a feature. We incorporated marble cladding, and at the top of the curved wall we made space for more artwork.

The bar, or rather the beautiful black box we framed with brass and LED lighting, was designed to contrast the surrounding white walls while not diverting all the attention from the art. To create the black box, we cut out a large portion of the wall and painted the walls and ceiling pitch black. The back of the box integrated brass to highlight the contents of the shelves.

We integrated the smokey grey cladding into the columns, and with the marble-like flooring in the bar we brought the island feature to life. The island, infused with brass, accentuated the dark tones used in the box and filled the space beautifully. The area was designed with entertaining at the forefront. The spacious area in front of the bar and around the island created the perfect place for guests to gather, making the Gregor Jenkins table the ideal piece to group the room.
