Designer look for DIY

I absolutely love the West Elm look. Based in the US and not available to South African surfers, their range of furniture is easy to knock-off if you are looking for DIY furniture ideas.

Because most of their furniture is modular it's fairly easy to duplicate using locally available timber and board. Look closely at the furniture sets and pieces displayed below to understand how easy these pieces would be to make yourself.

If you have attended a DIY-Divas workshop, this is exactly the type of furniture I refer to when I say that you will look twice at furniture before your buy - it's easy to make - so why spend money!

Simple, yet elegant, every single piece of furniture on this page is do-able as a DIY project, and it's just a matter of knowing what materials to use to get the right look. Choose from SupaWood, pine or MelaWood for most of these pieces - all of which are available at your local Builders Warehouse. If your local store doesn't stock what you need, try timber and board suppliers in your region.

For projects such as the dining table above, use 3mm SupaWood wrapped around a basic frame for the curved section, and assembled to create the illusion of thicker board for the table base. Get to know what's on the shelf at your Builders Warehouse store, as you will find that they stock a wide range of materials to help make your project a reality.

With the skills you already have, or those acquired at our DIY Divas workshops, and decent power tools - you don't have to save up for designer furniture when you can so easily make it yourself.
