There’s nothing quite as exciting as moving into a new home. It’s pretty much as if you’re starting a new chapter in your life, and that’s always cause for celebration! But before you start with the process of moving into your new home, it’s always advisable to be prepared. You need to make a list of the essentials that will need to be taken care of so that you are absolutely ready to make the move into a well prepared house, no issues involved whatsoever. This is why we’re going to go over these essentials so that you can be sure not to miss out on what matters.

The Bedroom

This is where you finally go to unwind and get some rest- put on your comfiest pajamas and go to sleep, so it’s important that you get everything right in here!

• Mattress: The number one priority is to get the appropriate mattress. The kind of mattress you need will not be the same as the one that your children will use. It’s a good idea to find yourself a decent mattress guide that will be able to fill you in on all the options and what their features are. If you have back or neck problems, for example, then you’re going to want to go for an ergonomic mattress that supports these kinds of issues.

• Bedding: When it comes to picking out the bed sheets, you want to ensure that you keep quality over quantity in priority. You need something that will feel comfortable on your skin and not suffocate it, and also maintain its colors and quality even after numerous washes. Just like the mattress, you need to pick your pillows carefully because this is actually what could either relieve or aggravate a neck problem. Lastly, you need a couple of options when it comes to covers and duvets- always be prepared for all kinds of weather.

• Night lamps: It’s the bedroom, and even if you’re not sharing it with anyone, there’s a certain mood that needs to be set. Always have night lamps with subtle non-invasive lighting that can allow you to read and also be easily switched off.

Bathrooms

If you don’t have your necessities taken care of in the bathroom before you move into your new home, then this could prove to be extremely uncomfortable because it is probably the most used room in the household.

• Shower Curtains: The last thing you want is a water soaked bathroom because you forgot to get a couple of shower curtains with you. Always have an extra set aside as well in case the current curtains rip.

• Floor Mats/Towels: It’s important that you have a couple of bathroom floor sets ready so that it’s convenient after the shower, and it also looks really nice too. Also think about getting a slip proof mat for your bathtubs and showers to avoid any accidents.

• Toiletries: The bathroom is useless if you don’t have the toiletries there! Toilet paper, toothbrushes and toothpastes, shower essentials and of course, cleaning products.

Kitchen

This is the room that requires the most prep before you move in, because it is the highest functioning one. So of course, this checklist will be a lot longer than the others.

• List of Electronics: Even though you might feel that some items are obvious and you don’t need a list, it surely doesn’t hurt to make one anyway to make sure that you don’t miss out on anything because you will be pretty busy! The fridge, microwave, electric kettle, coffee machine, and so on.

• Water Filtration: This is one that can be easily overlooked, but is extremely important. Make sure that you have your filtration system installed before you move in for cleaner, safer water.

• Spice Rack: You’re bound to have a bunch of spices, and it’s smart to either buy or install a spice rack before you move in.

• Shelf Liners: These are important for cleanliness, so get a couple of rolls of shelf liners and line all the shelves so that as soon as you move in you’re ready to put everything away.

• Utensils: Pots, pans and cooking and eating utensils need to be at the ready because you will have to cook and eat as soon as you get home!

Other Necessities

• Curtains: Have all the curtain rods and curtains installed before you move in because privacy is extremely important, and being able to shut the outside world out is also very imperative for security.

• Security System & Fire alarms: These are very important to have installed before you move in to ensure the household security even when you’re not there.

• Heaters & Plumbing: The last thing you want is a cold shower or a fixture not working properly or some kind of leak somewhere. Before you move in, make sure that you have working water heaters and that a plumber has a good look at everything to ensure that it’s all working the way it should.

• Cleaning Essentials: Always have your cleaning tools and products at the ready before you move in, because you’re going to need to use them a lot at the beginning! Initially, after you’ve just moved in you might want to think about hiring a professional cleaning company to really get a thorough cleaning, and this way your job will be much easier in terms of cleanliness.

• Get an electrician: You need an electrician to come and hook everything up for you, and also make sure you have a couple of surge protectors so that none of your devices get damaged by the voltage.

Moving into a new home can be just as hectic as it is exciting, so this is why it’s so important that you have a comprehensive list of all the things that need to be taken care of beforehand, and also while you move it. It’s always a very smart move to have a couple of professionals come in as you move into your new house so that you can ensure that everything is taken care of in the correct manner.
