Outbuildings become a guest cottage

On a remote farm in the heart of the country, an outbuilding is renovated and designed into a warm, rustic guest cottage.

Left idle for many years, when a guest cottage was needed to provide extra accommodation, rather than build a new structure it was decided to renovate an old outbuilding into a charming residence that is packed with character.

The original stone walls and wood beam ceilings were retained in the outbuilding, and only a few new details added to update the space into a comfortable home.

Most of the fittings, furniture and accessories were chosen for their vintage flair and to tie in with the rustic appeal of the completed guest cottage.

The fireplace heats up the open space when evenings get chilly.

The open plan space provides plenty of room and serves as a living area, dining space, reading nook, and even has space to work at home.

Two bedrooms in the guest cottage are located within the roof space on a raised platform. Additional lighting is provided by the addition of skylights.
