We have now spent more time at home this year than we did, dare I say, in 2018 and 2019 combined. The maths might be off but it is very easy to believe this to be true without really questioning it, thanks to Covid-19 lockdown regulations. All this time we have now spent at home has revealed the very many gaps in our preferences about the decorative pieces that brighten up our homes.

Like most of us, you have also now spent several hours conducting research into the many changes you would like to make to your walls or the furniture around the house you want replaced or even the dreadful renovations you might have to make to your bathroom. Don’t fret, here are a few budget-friendly interior design trends we all loved in 2020 to give you some inspiration!

Fresh Monochrome Walls

Both neutral and bold monochromatic coloured walls dominated the interior design colour trend this year. The likes of fresh white walls, which never go out of style by the way, grey and blue hues, punchy brown and orange, moody hues and other organic colours. What appeared consistent is a preference for actual wall paints over popular alternatives like wall-papers or patterned walls.

The budget perks here are a no brainer because all that needs to be done is choosing a preferred colour in line with your desired look and feel to transform your room into either a moody cosy haven, a vibrant creative hub or a relaxing airy space, for example. No need to stress over looking through a million types of wall patterns or interior wall designs, good old-fashioned quality paint will do. What is even better is that you get to save big because Black Friday is around the corner and trusted stores like Game or Makro will have even bigger discounts on home decor and everything you need to freshen up your own four walls.

Statement Decor Pieces

Statement pieces are a must, every room in your home save for maybe your kitchen needs a statement piece hanging on the wall or mounted in a corner of the room. In 2020, framed line art pieces were in, as well as big bold cultural paintings to evoke a cultural theme for a particular space, if desired. There are a plethora of local artists who sell their artwork at really decent rates and in some cases offer commissioned art deals tailored to your budget. Art pieces are a timeless interior design addition to the home, they will never go out of style and they can be purchased at different price points.

Minimalist Ideas

Minimalist décor is all the rave now, particularly among Gen Z, young working people have their homes stylishly designed with stunning and affordable minimalist interior design pieces. You will find functional but cute pieces like a leaning ladder that serves to keep your room tidy but also adds symmetry to the space. You will also find quirky pieces like minimalist lamp holders and wall mounted plant holders to add a unique detail of individuality to the space. The inclusion of textured neutral or colourful throws into the living space is also another inexpensive minimalist way to beautify your home. As interior design pieces, throws are very versatile, they can be bought in different fabric materials, be it quilt, wool or cotton, and more importantly, they can be used to add a splash of colour to any dull and neutral space. The possibilities are endless and your individual style preference for clean, stylish and affordable is what is often paramount.
