How to paint wicker furniture

Whether you already own wicker furniture that needs a makeover, or you discover secondhand wicker furniture, Rust-Oleum spray paint allows you an easy and affordable way to update and transform wicker furniture and accessories.

Secondhand bargains, like this wicker table and chairs, can be repurposed and put to practical use. You'll just need a can or two of Rust-Oleum spray paint and a few modifications to transform secondhand finds into the perfect pieces. With it's vinyl tile tabletops, this wicker table not only needed a coat or two of Rust-Oleum, it also needed new tabletops.

After removing the tops the table was cleaned and prepared for painting. You will find instructions here for cleaning and painting wicker furniture. If you want to duplicate the colour used on this wicker table and chairs, use Rust-Oleum 2X Gloss Kona Brown or 2X Satin Espresso.

Using the old tops as a guide, or cutting out a template using brown paper, will allow you to cut out a top to the correct size. We used a 6mm SupaWood offcut for our top that was cut to shape using a jigsaw and clean-cut blade, and covered this with self-adhesive vinyl in an attractive wood-grain pattern.

To complete the makeover, the tops were glued in place with No More Nails adhesive. The Rust-Oleum range of spray paints are perfect for updating wicker furniture and accessories for the home. Using spray paint allows you to properly coat the wicker - not only so that it looks good, but also so that it is protected.

ABOVE: Spray paint can easily get into the hard-to-brush areas on wicker accessories. These baskets, along with a wicker-frame mirror, got a glossy coat of white paint that gives them a sleek new appearance.

Don't blow your budget on buying new when you can transform your old wicker accessories with paint instead of buying new ones. Plain baskets like the one shown above, are relatively inexpensive, but the cost of purchasing a bunch of new ones can still add up.
