HERE'S HOW:

1. First unplug the lamp. Remove and discard the bottom felt piece (if it’s still attached), cut the cord, and disassemble the light fixture. Make a note of how to reassemble the pieces and set them aside if you want to reuse them.

2. Paint two coats of Rust-Oleum Spray Primer onto the base. Let dry 15 minutes between coats.

3. Apply two coats of Rust-Oleum Painters Touch - satin.

4. When the paint has completely dried, lightly sketch your design onto the lamp base with a soft pencil.

5. For the finial, hammer a nail into a scrap piece of wood, then place the wooden bead in the nail to paint it. Prime and paint the bead as above.

6. Using your smaller brushes, paint over your sketch. You can use acrylic craft paints, tester pots or Rust-Oleum paint pens. When the paint is completely dry, erase any wayward pencil marks.

7. Spray two coats of Rust-Oleum clear lacquer over the painted base and finial. Let dry between coats.

8. Rewire the lamp, replacing any necessary parts. Attach the shade and finial, then flip the switch. Let there be light!
