Ways to Recycle Plastic Crates
While sorting out my current kitchen storage, I came across some plastic crates that I want to recycle and found some great ideas for recycling plastic crates.
I am busy sorting out the kitchen in preparation for ripping out and installing new cupboards and cabinets. While cleaning out I discovered a couple of plastic crates that I would like to recycle. In the process of looking for ideas, I came across plenty of crafty DIY ways to recycle plastic crates into useful pieces for the home.
One great way to recycle plastic crates is to turn them into storage stools. This project doesn't require much - just some board, foam and fabric to make the upholstered seat that pops on top of the storage crate. Excellent idea for storage and seating in a child's bedroom or toy room.
If the plastic crates need some touching up, or you want to spray them in bright colours, grab a can or two of Rust-Oleum 2X spray paint at your local Builders. With so many colours to choose from you can completely coordinate the colour of the crates to match the existing room colours or to complement the fabric you select to upholster.
Crate Step Stool
If you're a shorty like me, turning a plastic storage crate into a nifty step stool is an easy way to recycle plastic crates. All you need to do this is some twine or sisal rope to craft a woven top for the crate.
Since most plastic storage crates are designed to be stackable, you can even use them to reach higher shelves. But do make sure it is safe and sturdy before you do.
Plastic Crates for Storage Shelves
If you need extra storage in a garage, laundry or playroom, plastic crates are easy to stack into any arrangement and you can easily pop in baskets or containers to give you as much storage as you need.
Or what about a wall of storage using plastic crates. This clever arrangement features storage crates with drawer runners fitted onto the sides, so that you can pack them with storage in a workshop or garage. Excellent way to recycle lots of plastic storage crates.
And don't forget that you can use Rust-Oleum 2X or Rust-Oleum Universal metallic spray paint to change the colour of your plastic crates so that they complement your existing room colour scheme.
Plastic Crate Furniture
Must be honest, I hadn't thought about recycling plastic crates into furniture, but this bedside table looks absolutely fantastic and you can make easily.
I might not be a fan of this plastic crate cabinet, but it will add a quirky touch to an eclectic decorating scheme, and won't cost much to make.
And it doesn't matter whether you have small or large crates, it seems there are so many ways to design plastic crates into unusual pieces of storage furniture for the home.
Fabric Wrapped Storage Crates
If you prefer to cover the plastic storage crates to disguise them... no problem. You can easily sew a fabric cover that can be wrapped around storage crates to make them more attractive.
You can use a variety of materials to cover plastic storage crates. Don't you just love this upholstered footstool that has been wrapped with sisal rope. Pop off the upholstered top and you even have extra storage inside the footstool.
