Having crafted several works that use mixed media, I must admit to being a fan of this art form. Mixed media lets you work with a variety of different mediums in many forms to create pieces that are most definitely unique and each one of a kind.

To offer more of an explanation as to what mixed media involves, you can use items to create a visual that can be painted over or given a light coat of plaster, over which you can apply more paint, glitter effects, accessories that tie in with the theme of your project, or whatever you like. There aren't any rules that come with mixed media... it's all about combining several mediums to create the whole.

You can use the many components of mixed media to create interesting objects until you decide on the elements you prefer to combine for your unique pieces. To better explain the basics of crafting in mixed media, this article focuses on the work of Tatyana Chupina, a Russian mixed media artist whose work is seen as one of the most creative forms of crafting with mixed media. Take a look at some examples of her mixed media creations and then view the video below to see how you can get started with your own mixed media projects.

Most of the mixed media creations shown below use items that you may already have in your home, items that can be found, cardboard cut-outs printed from the web and assorted fabrics, embellishments and accessories.
