There are hundreds of ideas out there for making your own unique Christmas decorations, but I do love this one that uses clothes pegs and it's a great way to upcycle or use inexpensive materials. The project is quick and only requires a few basic tools and supplies and you can make as many as you want.

YOU WILL NEED:

Pack or two of pine clothes pegs, 24 pegs required for this project

Spray paint

Craft glue

Glitter

String, twine or thin wire

TOOLS:

Cordless glue gun and glue sticks

HERE'S HOW:

Step 1

Remove the steel springs from all the clothes pegs to separate them. To do this, simply twist the pegs sideways and unhook the steel spring to remove.

Step 2

Apply a thin line of hot glue to the back of one of the pegs and quickly add the back of another peg onto this. You can use craft glue instead of a hot glue gun, but you will need to glue all the pegs and let them dry overnight before you continue with the next steps of the project.

Step 3

Continue to hot glue the backs of the pegs together in pairs and once you are finished all the pairs, you can glue all the pairs together at the thinner top end of the pegs to form a circle. Have all the completed pairs close at hand so that you can apply a bead of hot glue and quickly glue the pegs together.

Step 4

Continue to glue together the paired pegs until you have completed the circular shape that forms the snowflake. Make sure that all the pegs are flush on the top and bottom edges for a perfectly neat finish.

Step 5

We offer a few finishing options below, as well as a few other Christmas designs that you can make using clothes pegs. To hang the snowflakes in front of a window, on a mantel shelf or your Christmas tree, thread string or twine, or use thin wire, and attach this to the end of one of the peg pairs.

You can also use these clothes pegs snowflakes to display a votive candle in the centre as a centrepiece decoration for the dining table.

There are all types of snowflake shapes that you can make, and these will make a wonderful decoration when arranged in a group and hung in front of a window. You can also make a large snowflake to take pride of place at the top of the Christmas tree or to use as tree ornaments.
