Parents generally want their kids to do well in school. Thus, making a study corner or even a study room for your children is a great idea to keep them inspired.

Keep in mind to keep the area conducive for learning by following some of the decorating tips below.

Furniture

A study room or a study corner at the very least should have a desk and a chair. These are the basic furniture that should be found because the desk and the chair serve as your child’s work or study station. You have the option of adding shelves as necessary to organize and arrange their books neatly. You also have the option of adding drawers where other school supplies such as notebooks, pens, and paper can be stored. If there are two or more kids sharing the room, arrange the desks in an ‘L’ shape to create more space sufficient for all users. Nevertheless, the study room should not be too crowded with furniture.

Lighting

The primary purpose of lighting is to illuminate the room, particularly for study sessions conducted in the evening. During the day, natural lighting may be sufficient to illuminate the room. Keep in mind that a dark room can make your child sleepy while lighting that is too bright can be a distraction. The proper and sufficient amount of lighting for a study room is somewhere between these conditions. Apart from its primary purpose, however, a good lighting can also be decorative.

Theme

While white and other neutral tones are very much recommended for a study room, subtle color pallets may also do the trick. The color tone or theme that you set for the study room will create an overall atmosphere. A splash of color can be invigorating and fun, but at the same time, too much of this can also be a distraction. There are studies that show that soft colors have an effect on the stress levels and concentration. On the other hand, there are also studies that show that the favorite color of your child will keep them engaged in learning.

Even with a study room or a study corner, some children find it hard to study independently. This is where the role of the parents comes in. However, there are instances that inhibit parents from being able to review their children, and in these cases, the help of a tutor is greatly appreciated, especially for challenging subjects such as mathematics.

Keep in mind to decorate your child’s room to be conducive for learning. This will encourage him to study more and ultimately ace his subjects. Nevertheless, your child’s study room can also serve as a place where he can enhance his creativity and pursue his other interests.
