Quick Project: Dressing room makeover

Take a look at how Maple & Magnolia transformed a dull and dingy room into a wonderful Shabby Chic dressing room. Just goes to show what you can do with a few cans of paint and some time on your hands.

One of the cool things about our farmhouse is that each bedroom has its own dressing room. It’s the first time I’ve ever decorated a room that was totally for myself. I didn’t have to worry about anybody else’s likes, dislikes, fave colours, whether it was too girly, blah blah blah. And lemme tell ya…it was fun.

Before we begin…let me give you a little refresher on what the space looked like before. Champagne-ish colour carpet, walls and trim work the same exact colour, which I believe is called 'dingy, depressing and drab.'

It all started with the floors. Once I ripped up the carpet, it was go time. Although a dressing room makeover was way, way, down on my to-do list - the naked, nail-filled, staple-laden hardwood bumped it straight to the top. Once I removed all the nails and staples from the floor, I painted the walls and the trim got several coats of nice, crisp white.

With the walls and floors done it's time to tackle the floor. Having been covered with carpet for who knows how many years, it wasn't looking too good. But there are ways to spruce up a grubby wood floor.

My antique vanity and dresser got head to toe makeovers in French Grey chalk paint.

A pair of corbels, some tab-top curtains and a branch from the garden complete this 'quiet' corner in the room.

Once I painted the room and had most everything in it, it looked a bit too stark. So I added the picket fence that I found to 'dirty' it up a bit. It’s a great place to hang necklaces.
