Add colour to a bedroom

You can easily add colour to a bedroom without adding too much colour. Here are some ideas on adding small amount of colour using fabric, paint, wallpaper and accessories ...

Wallpaper is a wonderful way to introduce colour into a better. You can apply to only a single wall, wall walls, or even use just to dress up a piece of furniture.

The fun in creating a feature wall using wallpaper is that it also adds texture to a bedroom. Plus, wallpaper is once again becoming popular as a design material. Applying wallpaper is not too difficult once you know how.

A bedroom decorated in cream is given instant impact and a touch of 'wow' factor with black accents. The curtains, bed trim and decor accessories transform this otherwise bland room into a Hollywood-style bedroom.

When decorating a bedroom think about incorporating texture. This can be on the floors, walls, or accessories that you add to the room.

For impact, add colourful accessories to design a room that is lively and more interesting. After all, you spend a lot of time in the bedroom - so make it a space that you enjoy.

Not sure which textures to add. Here are a few to consider for your bedroom style:

Traditional bedroom:
Persian-look rugs and woven wool carpets, antique or reproduction furniture, watercolours in decorative frames, silver and cut glass accessories.

Country bedroom :
Casual rugs and chenille bedding in plain for floral prints, Shabby Chic accessories, comfortable seating in wicker and accessories in organic materials.

Romantic bedroom:
4-Poster bed with sheer drapes, silk and satin linen and soft furnishings, deep-pile luxury carpets or rugs, crystal or reproduction chandelier.

Modern bedroom:
Bamboo or laminated floor, designer headboard, leather and stainless steel, glossy lacquered or laminated furniture.

Afraid to use bold colour? As the largest piece of furniture in a bedroom, the bed usually grabs all the attention. Add to this by painting the wall behind the bed in a chocolate brown if you have dark furniture, or a taupe or biscuit for a light coloured bed.

Now you can dress up the bed and add texture all in one with bedding. With pillows you can easily change the look and feel of a bedroom:

Winter looks: Layers of textured pillows and a throw make a room feel cosy and warm.

Summer looks: Change the bedding and introduce zingy, bright colours from the garden to invigorate and refresh a bedroom.
