Stylish cork bathmat

I like using duckboards or wooden bathmats, but I find them slippery when wet. This cork-topped bathmat is easy and affordable to make, and you won't have to worry about slip-sliding around the bathroom!

This cork finish gives the bathmat a nice look, and the cork is comfortable to stand on, too. The finished piece will add a lot of style to your bath.

YOU WILL NEED:

3 of 10 x 44mm x 1800mm PAR pine cut to 13 lengths of 400mm - slats

1 of 32 x 32mm x 1800 PAR pine cut to 3 lengths of 600mm - supports

10 cork tiles, or a cork sheet large enough to cover your bathmat*

No More Nails exterior adhesive

Alcolin spray adhesive

Craft knife and cutting mat

*As an alternative to cork, you can use grained vinyl tile.

HERE'S HOW:

On a cutting mat, use a craft knife to cut the cork to the size of the top slats. You can use the slats as guides and simply cut out the cork around them.

Alcolin spray adhesive forms a strong bond between the pine slats and the cork. Spray on the back side of the cork and one side of the slats and leave for 5 minutes. Press the cork firmly in place on each slat and put aside for about 30 minutes.

Turn the pine slats upside down. Use a carpenter's square to line up the base supports. Stick the supports onto the slats with No More Nails exterior adhesive. Coat the underside of the mat with Plascon Woodcare Ultra varnish. Stick a few self-adhesive gripper pads to the bottom to prevent slips.
