Bathroom Bliss - Efficient Bathroom in Designer Home

A designer home with bathrooms as efficient as they are elegant!

Bathrooms are traditionally a utilitarian space, but Manual Brazao, the developer of this modern home nestled in Eagle Canyon, has transformed them into a soothing, spa-like escape. From the petite powder room to the sprawling master bath – each is an on trend arrangement of classic clean lines and contemporary finishes that are unlikely to date.

Brazao believes that bathrooms are not just a practical “wet” space, but a room in which to wind down and wash away the stress of the day. With this in mind he set out to achieve perfect symmetry, where aesthetics and enduring elegance were flawlessly balanced with functionality – appointing Dezign a Door, to manufacture and install all the custom-made cabinetry.

Brazao opted for a neutral palette of crisp white, soft creams, shades of brown, some deeper tones and beige for all the bathrooms – creating an effect that is calming and easy on the eye. To avoid this look falling flat, various shades of the same hue were layered throughout each bathroom - through the flooring, vanity, décor and accent pieces. A clever move, whether on-suite or in the powder room – this colour combination ensures the bathrooms blend seamlessly with the rest of the décor in the house.

Believing handles are like the full stop to a sentence – Brazao says that if you get it right they’re more like an exclamation mark! The slim line black matt handles used on each cupboard door are a truly tasteful finish and a high note on each vanity. Adding yet more intrigue – the handles were installed both vertically and horizontally.

Floating bathroom vanities used to be synonymous with contemporary design - but with the simplification of life styles, new design trends, and most often just the square footage available – they are now the essential way to float your bathroom to the next level. All four bathrooms, upstairs and the downstairs powder room, have floating vanities in varying colours, dimensions and designs. Each has a top mounted basin in a crisp white ceramic with classic silver hardware.

“This look helped us reduce the visual weight of the cabinetry and offers the visual break needed to let the coordinating materials be the star in the room. We also added a compartment on the side of the one-door vanities for additional built-in organisation and extra storage space. This added interest and some artful utility to each vanity,” says Brazao.

The main bathroom is a real shop stopper and includes a double vanity, standalone oval bathtub, and an oversized shower with glass doors, all built around a central seating area where a plush carpet and ottoman have been installed. The Satin finish Overcast doors provide a sharp contrast to the white melamine carcasses and are a big part of the wow factor in the room. Of course you can never go wrong with a framed mirror in your bathroom. It instantly upgrades the space and the two ornately finished mirrors in black instantly elevates the elegance of this room. The floor to ceiling marble wall tiles add to the opulence of this room - with down lighting that perfectly offsets all the focal bathroom features.

One of the many clever space saving design ideas included the installation of the clothes’ cupboards within one of the on-suite bathrooms. This freed up bedroom space which was at a premium and created a dressing area within the bathroom itself. This idea was replicated in varying ways in some of the other bathrooms but in these instances – a separate walk-in dressing area was constructed. So while part of the bathroom they were more like on-suite dressing rooms.

Each of the bathrooms has floor to ceiling tiles in different styles, shapes and colours with modern glass shower doors that create a feeling of space. All these choices come together to create a Zen vibe that is peaceful and uncluttered.

Bathroom bliss is the only way to describe these bathrooms – an enviable room in which to relax at the end of a long day. For further bathroom inspiration – go to www.dezignadoor.co.za
