When you have lived in a property for a while and decide that it is time to move out, it is etiquette that you clean before you leave. There are a few areas that should be thoroughly cleaned before leaving and we offer some helpful tips on areas you should clean or should hire an End Of Tenancy Cleaning Service to do the cleaning on your behalf.

1. MAKE SPACE FOR PROPER CLEANING

Before you can clean from top to bottom, waiting until everything has been moved out. You want to have access to all areas in the space to clean properly. Remove any furnishings that may have been left behind such as curtains or blinds. Ensure that all removable furniture and fittings are taken out of the property.

2. HAVE THE PROPER CLEANING SUPPLIES

A thorough cleaning requires that you have the proper cleaning supplies. If the property is carpeted, have a quality vacuum cleaning on hand and hire a carpet cleaner for the day. A couple of pedestal fans will also come in useful in helping to dry out the carpet faster after cleaning. If you prefer not to do this job yourself, consider hiring Maids à la Mode of Mobile.

3. START AT THE TOP

The cleaning process will be speedier if you begin at the top of each and every room and work your way down to the floor.

• Use a feather duster to remove dust and cobwebs from corners, around cornice or crown moulding and to dust around the top of window treatment fixtures such as rods or rails. Once the dusting is complete, switch over to using a cloth and a mild abrasive cleaner to clean curtain rods and rails or fittings for window treatments.

• Pay particular attention to any light fittings or ceiling fans and give these a good clean with a soft cloth to remove any dirt or dust that has built up.

• Wash windows with a solution of warm water and dishwashing detergent and rinse clean. After that, go over the windows with a window cleaner and soft cloth.

• Move around the room to clean light fittings, wall scones, build-in cabinetry or other permanent fittings or fixtures.

• Before moving onto the floor area, don't forget to clean doors and frames. These accumulate a lot of dust and will need a good clean with a mild abrasive cleaner and cloth.

• Wipe around skirting and baseboards before vacuuming and cleaning the carpets. For wood floors, use a soft mop to wipe away excess dust and dirt.

4. CLEANING NON-REMOVABLE FIXTURES

In any home, there are going to be non-removable fixtures in the kitchen and bathrooms. These include sanitary ware, stovetops and ovens and similar. All these should be given a deep cleaning to remove accumulated grime and grease. You should also clean wall tiles in these areas with a mild abrasive cleaner and cloth.

• Apply an oven-cleaning product to remove built-up grease on stovetops and oven.

• Clean out a refrigerator, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer, if these are fixtures that belong to the property.

• Use a mild abrasive cleaner on bathtubs, basins, shower and toilet.

5. CLEANING UP OUTDOORS

Cleaning up outdoors is just as important as indoors. If there is a balcony, patio, deck or porch. Make sure these areas are left clean and tidy before you leave.

CONCLUSION

After cleaning, you can be satisfied in knowing that you left the property clean for the next tenant and ensure that you receive any security deposit paid before occupation.
