This year, forego the mad rush and disorganised panic of trying to find a venue to host your Christmas event by celebrating at home. Give your festive party a modern twist with shimmering decorations, gilded crockery and unexpected pops of colour. 

South Africans know how to celebrate Christmas with a cool fare of crisp salads, fresh fruits and vegetables and assorted side dishes to accompany the main meal. This is a wonderful way to set up a table with all-white crockery and let the food add splashes of festive red and green to the table - without any expensive decorations.

These softer shades as a backdrop allow the natural colours of the food to pop.

Dessert is everyone's favourite and putting them out on display will add to the look of your table. Display cakes and cupcakes on elevated servers so that they are eye-catching and guests can help themselves. You can even add extra decoration with shimmering baubles that match the table decor.

Be on top of your organising by preparing a few delicious cocktails in advance. That allows you plenty of time for last-minute chores without being overwhelmed. Choose cocktails that blend with the overall theme for your celebrations.

Shop for a selection of gold-dipped glasses - or make your own using gold paint or Rust-Oleum metallic spray paints.
