Use a Dremel MultiTool for designs on furniture

An upcycled cabinet gets a big makeover using a Dremel MultiTool and engraving bit.

Lucy designs started off by sanding the original cabinet to remove varnish and then painted in a creamy colour before tackling the detailed freestyle engraving to transform a rather boring cabinet into an interesting and eye-catching piece.

Using chalk, the design was drawn on the sides and top of the cabinet to make it easy to start engraving with the Dremel MultiTool. This powerful tool makes engraving easy and after a couple of practice runs you will be ready to engrave almost any project.

For this project you will use a Dremel High Speed Cutter #191.

Before applying the brown topcoat (shown left) a second coat of cream was applied and then the brown paint rubbed over the surface using a cloth. By using a cloth you can easily create a rustic finish that leaves a darker colour in the cut grooves, making them stand out even more.

And there you have it... An ordinary looking cabinet is transformed into a one-of-a-kind piece.
