When the family is hungry, these tikka masala fish tacos are perfect for lunch or a snack. Assembling them is a breeze, and their creamy spiciness is the perfect match for the Spier Signature Chenin Blanc.

Run out of fish? No problimo! What's nice about this tikka marinade is that it is incredibly versatile and you can use it with chicken or pork as an alternative to fish. Put the meat aside to marinate for a couple of hours and then all you have to do is to transfer the meat to a hot pan. Stir for a few minutes until cooked.

If you love your food hot and spicy, throw in a few slices of chilli and a dash of chilli powder when you are preparing the fish or meat. With an accompaniment of the dill and yoghurt and dill side will add just the right amount of balance and cooling, smooth creaminess to your fish tacos.

YOU WILL NEED:

 (makes 6 medium tacos)

- Fish tikka:

600g white fish, cut into cubes

15ml vegetable oil

 1 tsp. ground cumin

1 tsp. ground fennel

2 tsp. smoked paprika

2 tsp. garam masala

½ teaspoon turmeric

2 cloves garlic, finely grated

1 tsp. ginger, finely grated

Grated lemon zest and juice of a medium lemon

½ cup natural or plain yoghurt

Seasoning to taste

Optional: ½ tsp. chilli powder

- For assembly

1 cup plain yoghurt

Fresh dill, finely chopped

6 tortillas, medium size

2 cups fresh tomato, sliced

1 small red onion, finely sliced

Fresh coriander leaves, roughly chopped

HERE'S HOW:

  1. To prepare the fish tikka, place the cumin, fennel, paprika, masala, turmeric, chilli (if using), garlic, ginger, lemon zest and juice and yoghurt in a glass or ceramic bowl and season before mixing well. Now you can add the fish and toss to ensure the fish cubes are coated all over. Cover with cling wrap and place in the refrigerator to marinate for approximately 3 hours.
  2. In a large heated wok or deep frying pan, pour in the oil and marinated fish cubes. Stir for approximately 5 minutes or until the fish is cooked. You want the marinade to be fairly thick. Remove from the heat.
  3. Combine the dill and plain yoghurt in a small glass or ceramic bowl.
  4. To assemble the tacos simply place a dollop of the yoghurt on top of the fish tikka. Add tomato, onion and coriander. Serve immediately.
