Iron Brew Chicken

Fire up the braai and be adventurous and try this old-fashioned twist to roast chicken.


  • Serves 4-6
  • Preparation Time: 15 mins
  • Cooking Time: 75 mins






  • 1 whole chicken
  • 1 tin Iron Brew
  • 2 sprigs rosemary
  • 1 packet Knorr Smokey BBQ Packet Marinade
  • ¼ lemon


  1. Remove giblets, and rinse the chicken under running water
  2. Rub ¾ of the Knorr Smokey BBQ Packet Marinade contents over the chicken
  3. Discard ¼ of the Iron Brew from the tin, and add the remaining marinade to the tin
  4. Hold the chicken upright and lower it on to the tin so that it fits into the cavity
  5. Pull the legs forward so that the bird is resting on them as well as the tin
  6. Stuff the lemon and rosemary into the neck of the chicken to trap the steam
  7. Braai in a kettle braai or in the oven at 180°C for 1 hour 15 minutes
  8. Serve with braai salads and garlic bread
