Adding pops of colour to a kitchen

Not everyone likes to be bold with colour, some prefer to be more conservative and less daring. But there are ways to add small pops of colour and make a huge difference.

Adding a colourful light shade is one way to introduce colour to a kitchen - but don't stop there.

Choose a matching paint colour and decorate a window frame, or use fabric to create a colourful blind.

While white is nice, your kitchen will appreciate splashes of bright colour to liven it up. In this kitchen [above] the ceiling beam has been painted to match the wall clock and contrasts well with the pale blue backsplash and crisp white cabinetry.

Or go for colour in a big way and colour your kitchen with the latest range of Smeg appliances.

Kitchen countertops are now available in a wide range of colours from PG Bison, and you can affordably update a kitchen with colour in this way. However, the only downside is that, once you tire of the colour you have to change it again!

Swapping out clear glass with translucent, coloured acrylic gives a kitchen a new look, as does painting the inside of glass-fronted cabinet.

Add colour with accessories. Today's kitchen appliances deserve to be put on show, especially when they're KitchenAid or Le Creuset.

Highlight a display of china by painting the back of a hutch or cabinet in a pale colour that matches your kitchen appliances.

Shop around for accessories that add bright colour to a kitchen. These can include anything from chairs, table linen or kitchen accessories.

And don't forget fresh flowers. A bunch of colourful freshly cut flowers in a vase really perks up a kitchen.
