Zigzag Fun!

As you search for fun and fresh starting points to decorate a girl's room, examine your sewing box for ideas. Instead of focusing on a specific motif or theme, consider trims and embellishments that could spark your imagination and colour palette.

You will need:
- Raw pine or MDF nightstand
- Acrylic paint: lemon, light & dark lilac, light &   dark pastel green
- Tube of white craft paint
- Medium- and fine-grit sandpaper
- Paint brushes
- Green and purple pencils
- T-square
- Zig-zag stencil
- Stamps: daisy in two sizes
- Clear, matte-finish polyurethane

Here's how:
1. Sand the nightstand with medium- and then with fine-grit sandpaper. Wipe with a clean, dry cloth. Prime the top, sides, and bottom panel yellow; paint the legs light green.

2. Paint the drawer fronts. Create a checkerboard effect by painting the drawer fronts two shades of lilac.

3. Detail the top. Stamp daisies in white using two sizes of commercial stamps. Allow to dry. Stamp again in lilac, slightly outside the first stamped lines.
