Daisy CD holder

If you have some experience of working with a router, this project can be done in a jiffy.

You will need:
12mm supawood cut to 500 x 500mm
Picture hanger
180-grit sandpaper
Prominent Sheen - easter violet
Foam roller and paint tray
Small paintbrush
Small length of chain, panel pin and pencil
Tools: Jigsaw, router and bits, , drill and 10mm drill bit, hammer

Here's how:
1. Determine the centre of the supawood square and hammer in a small panel pin. Insert one end of the chain over the panel pin and position the pencil in the link to draw a circle within the square.

DIY Tip:
I find that using a piece of chain is the easiest way to draw out circle shapes with the least fuss and effort.

2. Draw a small circle for the centre opening. Measure 20mm in from this circle and draw another circle. This circle will be the inside edge for the CD.

3. The next circle must be 130mm further out to allow for a standard CD case length of 126mm.

4. Divide the circle into 24 slots. Drill a 10mm hole at each end of the CD slot.

5. On the outer circle draw off 8 petal shapes - use a small plate as a template - and cut these out using the jigsaw. Turn slowly into the curves for a smooth finish. Lightly sand the edges.

6. Set up the router to insert the cutting blade into the pre-drilled hole at one end of the CD slot and rout out a dado. Repeat this for all the other CD slots. Lightly sand the edges.

Finish off with two coats of Prominent Sheen and fit picture hangers to the back.
