Decorate bedroom for a little boy
We always feature such lovely ways to decorate a bedroom for a little girl but rarely for a little boy. So for all you moms out there looking for ideas for a little boy's bedroom, this article is just for you!

Decorating a bedroom for a little boy is not quite the same as for a little girl. Boys are more rambuctious - the love to bounce around, make mess and have fun. It is essential that you buy furniture that can handle the bumps and kocks, and especially the jumping around.
Telling a little boy not to jump on the bed is like asking him to keep his room tidy - no way is that going to happen!

Colours for a little boys bedroom are either going to be pastel shades or bold, bright primary colours. While pastel shades are cute for a toddler, bump up the colours as he gets a little older. Blue, red, yellow or green with white or black furniture and acceents are ideal for growing minds. It's also a good idea to look into the psychology of colour to find out how colours affect mood. As an example, for a young boy with ADHD you might want to decorating in more calming shades to relax and calm.

Unfortunately we South Africans don't have the same variety of bedding that is available overseas, but the good news is that you can buy international products these days. But if you prefer not to do that, keep bedding to solid colours and add interest to the bedroom with paint and accessories.

Theme beds are great for a little boy, they allow for an active imagination and play. The problem is that so many of the beds available are manufactured from cheap chipboard and tend to fall apart quickly. Shop for a bed that is made from supawood - at least 16mm thick - and will see your child through to his teen years.
Another thing to consider is beds that are coated rather than painted. Over time the coating chips revealing the board beneath and is difficult to cover up, whereas a painted bed is easily fixed up with a bit of paint.
Look for a bed design that will grow with your child. A car bed, especially a racing car or super model, will always be a favourite with any little boy.

Pine bedroom furniture will always endure - no matter how much beating. And the upside is that you can easily sand and re-stain furniture as and when needed.

White bedroom furniture is nice to look at but will require regularly cleaning to keep it looking good. As mentioned above, if the bed is painted you can always re-paint after a few years if it starts to look grubby.

Boys bedroom furniture in darker colours will not only be easier to keep clean, it will last longer. In fact, darker coloured furniture will see your little boy through his teen years, and possibility even later than that, especially if of a sturdy design.

More important than the colour is the design. Furniture for a boys bedroom definitely needs to be practical. It should offer plenty of storage - because we know that boys can be messy - and it should preferably be dual purpose - because we know that boys need plenty of room for play.
A boys bed that offers underbed storage or a pullout bed is great for both extra storage and for when friends sleepover, while a built-in desk provides essential study space without taking up too much room. Desk beds and spacesaver beds are perfect for both little boys and demanding teens.
