You will need:
- Tape measure
- Handsaw
- 12mm MDF
- Spirit level
- Drill
- 2 wallplugs
- Wood glue
- Hammer and panel pins
- Paint brush, primer, acrylic paint, acrylic varnish
- Screws and screwdriver.
Here's how:
1. Decide on the dimensions for the box shelf and cut two identical pieces of MDF for the sides, two identical pieces for the top and bottom and one piece for the back, large enough to back the rectangle made by the other four pieces.
2. Hold the back piece level against the wall (check with spirit level) and drill two holes through the MDF and into the wall. Remove the MDF and insert wallplugs into the drilled holes.
3. Now assemble the box using wood glue and panel pins. First join the four side pieces of the box; apply wood glue to their top edges. Press the back piece on top and hammer panel pins to secure.
4. Paint the box with primer; leave to dry, then apply one or two coats of acrylic. Leave to dry. Finish off with two coats of arcylic varnish.
5. When the box shelf is finishes, hold it against the wall and screw tightly in place.
