You will need:
- Hard-lead pencil
- Level
- Prerouted picture-frame moulding (available at DIY stores)
- Soft boards (available at DIY stores)
- Acrylic paint
- Paintbrush
- Nails
- Wood filler
Here's how:
1. Cut strips of picture-frame moulding to fit the wall width.
2. Paint the moulding and boards with two or more coats of acrylic paint.
3. Measure the wall for placement. Using a pencil and level, mark the bottom of the border at a comfortable height for your child.
4. Nail the bottom moulding to the wall along the line so the routed edge faces up to hold the boards.
5. Add board and top moulding. Set the board in place on the moulding. Nail the top moulding in place with the routed edge facing down. If necessary, use additional nails or double-face tape to hold the board in place while installing the top moulding.
6. Finish moulding. Fill the nail holes with wood filler, and touch up the paint.
