You will need:
The table is 30cm square for this project.
- External plywood
- (2) 20cm x 20cm strips of timber
- Post or chain
- Tape measure and pencil
- Spirit level
- Wood saw
- Sandpaper
- Hammer and small nails
- Screwdriver and screws
- Wood preservative or paint
Here's how:
1. Lay out the plywood on a level surface and market out a base of 30cm square, using the spirit level to ensure a straight line. Then mark out (2) roof panels 23cm x 35cm in the same way.
2. Supporting the plywood sheet with one hand, carefully saw through the marked lines to cut out the base and roof panels. Smooth down the rough edges of all the pieces using a fine grade sandpaper.
3. Cut four edging strips for the base from 20cm x 20cm timber, one slightly shorter than the others to allow for a gap at one corner to clear debris. Fix to the base with nails, hammered through from underneath.
4. Cut (4) uprights 23cm long from the timber strips. Cut one end of each to a 45 degree angle. Turn the base on its side and fix the flat end to each corner of the table by screwing up through the base into the upright.
5. Hammer the support port into the soil until it is secure. Position the table on top, take a few minutes to ensure that it's centrally placed, then attach the base to the post using a screw.
6. Cut a 35cm length from one of the timber strips. Nail the roof panels into this length of wood at a 90 degree angle. Sit the roof on top of the four uprights and fix by nailing through the panels into the uprights.
7. To hang the bird table, follow the steps above, omitting attaching to the post. Screw the chain in place at each corner of the edging strips, eual distance from the edge.
Hang the table from a stout branch where it will not get entangled in foliage.
