Make your own storage cubes

Planning to do some home improvements? Here are a selection of hand tools you may need for the job:

Not only are storage cubes very easy to make, they are ideal for storage in almost any room in the home. Stack them up to design your own unique wall storage unit, use them in a bathroom - mounted on the wall - for packing away your towels and bathroom goodies, or put small feet on the bottom and create bathroom cabinets. There are just so many options for storage solutions using cubes.

YOU WILL NEED:

[4] pieces of equally size board or timber - nothing less than 12mm thick
Bosch drill / driver
Drill bit, 2mm
Countersink bit
4 x 25mm cut or wood screws
Wood filler or plastic screw caps
180-grit sandpaper (if using wood filler)
Woodoc Gel Stain or Stain Concentrate
Woodoc 5 or 10 interior sealer
Woodoc steelwool
Paintbrushes

HERE'S HOW:

1. Cubes are so easy to make if you have your wood cut and edged at your local Builders Warehouse or Builders Express. Simply apply wood glue and screw the sides into the top and bottom sections.

2. Assemble the cubes as per the diagram - bottom. This outline will create a perfect square shape.

3. For a neat finish, countersink the screw holes so that screws are invisible. Sand smooth once dry. Another easy option is to use plastic screw caps in white, brown or black.

DIY Tip:
Use a spirit level when marking to ensure that your cubes will be straight and accurate.

Finishing off
Apply Woodoc Gel Stain, or mix the Stain Concentrate into Woodoc 5 or Woodoc 10 interior sealer. Apply the first coat liberally and let dry. Rub over with Woodoc steelwool and wipe clean. Apply the second and third coats, allowing drying time between coats.
