Get to know... Jigsaw

The new Bosch Jigsaw Range gets you off to a great start for any DIY-work, such as laying laminate flaws or general cutting in wood. The easy-to-use one-hand ‘SDS’ saw blade system enables effortless, and safe, saw blade changes. There's nothing simpler: insert the saw blade, that's it – without tools and with only one hand.

The Bosch PST 680 EL is most definitely the best jigsaw that I have ever used.

An integral laser beam shows exactly where the saw will cut. If the user lines up the laser beam flush with the marked cutting line when sawing, the saw cuts exactly along the mark. If required, the laser beam can be easily readjusted at the centering aid, for example if the saw blade thickness changes. The mains-powered laser is assigned to application category two, meaning that the DIY enthusiast can also work without protective goggles.

Weighing in at just 1.8 kilograms it is both lightweight and ergonomical in design - great for DIY Divas. I found it very easy to handle and, whilst previously I tended to lose control when starting a cut, with this model the smooth action and easy handling allowed me more control and a straight cut.

The tool quick-change system SDS that is used on all Bosch jigsaws also saves time: to change the saw blade, all you have to do is throw a lever, then the blade falls out of the machine on its own, which is great for changing a hot blade - no more burnt fingertips! The new blade is simply inserted into the holder and then the jigsaw is ready for use again.

The push-button air-blower function blows the chips away from the cutting site ensuring that you have a clear view of what's going on, and the user can connect a household vacuum cleaner to the rear of the jigsaw, which collects the sawing chips.

The new machine housing, in conjunction with the rubber-coated handle, allows for vibration-free and non-tiring work. The on/off switch is integrated into the handle. It also has a switch-on lock, which prevents the machine from being switched on unintentionally. A particularly practical feature is that the user can operate the switch on both sides using a thumb – making the machine equally suitable for right-handers and left-handers.

If you’ll only use a jigsaw once in a while, you may want to buy a basic model, and when you’re ready to move up, you can spend more for a heavy-duty saw that performs better and has more features
