Wall-mounted bookshelves offer an easy way to provide a home with essential storage. Plus, wall-mounted bookshelves don't take up any valuable floor space and can be styled in so many different ways.

Re-think steel shelving

Steel shelving might not look that great when you view it unassembled in the store, but with a bit of tweaking you can transform steel shelving into an attractive storage shelf system that can be used as a display shelf, or for essential storage.

Look at what's available at your local Builders or hardware store and give some thought as to how you can mount this at home. It doesn't have to be blocky - you can arrange the shelves in any configuration.

Do away with melamine shelves and add personality with wood or reclaimed timber shelves. You can even cut down pallet wood to make your own shelves.

Give steel shelving personality by spraying with Rust-Oleum 2X or Universal spray paint. Rust-Oleum spray paint is available is a wide range of satin or gloss colour options, as well as trendy metallic finishes.

Steel shelving is also a great way to display your TV if you don't have room for a TV cabinet or media console. You can disguise electrical wires by fastening these to the steel frame so that they aren't messy.

GOOD TO KNOW: When mounting steel shelves to walls - use nylon wall plugs (Fischer) or Rawlplugs to ensure secure mounting. And use a Digital Detector before drilling into walls to make sure you won't hit electrical or plumbing pipes.
